Adding Outdoor Living Space in Impossible Places
Outdoor living space is always in high demand. Many clients have reached out to us over the years to add on or enlarge screened porches, decks, and patios. And, the end result feels like you’ve added square footage to your home by adding more usable space.
One client, who’d built a home several years prior on a very steep slope, reached out to us because they really wanted outdoor living space, but the steep slope presented a formidable challenge. To give you an idea about the slope, their home was part of a small mountain subdivision featured in an episode of HGTV’s Extreme Homes because of how the homes were perched to accommodate the steepness of the slope.
We enlisted an engineering firm to help design a support structure that would include more than 50-foot-tall steel posts and massive cross beams. Our team built an elaborate scaffolding structure to ensure team safety during the construction process. This was one project that was not for the faint of heart. Fear of heights turned into a healthy respect for heights.
In the end, what seemed like a nearly impossible challenge turned into what the client has repeatedly told us was the best decision they made about their home. They always use the outdoor living space, which feels a lot like a tree house in the way it is nestled in the canopy.
It was a fun, eye opening challenge to help the client fulfill their dream of adding outdoor living space. Let us know how we may fulfill yours.
